We are pleased to share some updates regarding the NEED (Needs Examination, Evaluation, and Dissemination) project. The NEED Symposium took place on 28 November and it was a great success! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants whose engagement and contributions made the event so memorable. The NEED team is also undergoing a transition. We’re saying goodbye to Rani, who will be starting her PhD at the University of Ghent: congratulations for this opportunity and we wish her the best of luck on this exciting journey! Happy reading! | NEED symposium 28th November – 2025 - The NEED Symposium took place in Brussels on 28 November 2025 and brought together policymakers, researchers, clinicians, and patient representatives to discuss how unmet health-related needs can be assessed and addressed. | | On 9 December 2025, Christina Fischer presented a poster at theSocial Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) Sweden Conference 2025: Advancing Equity in Social Innovation in Health in Uppsala, Sweden. The third international SIHI Sweden conference focused on how social innovations in health can advance equity and foster collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and community leaders.

On 30th January, Charline and Irina participated in the Day of the patients organised by the Vlaams Patienten Platform (VPP), the Dutch-speaking Belgian Federation of Patient Associations: https://vlaamspatientenplatform.be/nl/dag-van-de-patientenvereniging : the network of patients was very curious to understand how NEED was evolving and to understand the input of lived experience in these types of projects.

| Ongoing activities The team is currently focused on: | • A comprehensive ethical analysis exploring the ethical implications of the NEED initiative. • Deloitte and NEED team are working on the protocol of the NEED case study on sickle cell disease. • We are adapting the NEED assessment framework and NEED tools to better capture unmet health-related needs in paediatric populations. • We are preparing to integrate data from the Belgian Health Interview Survey (a Sciensano project) into the next update of the NEED database.
